Ignite the fire within...
Fire As Medicine (FAM) is a trauma-informed community that honors fire dancing not just as performance, but as a ceremonial ally for healing, storytelling, and transformation. We invite participants to explore the sacred within and around them, welcoming the flame into a mirror, a guide, and a source of radical connection.Through education and an immersive approach, we create space for:● Nervous system regulation & somatic healing● Creative expression & personal sovereignty● Fire ritual & collective empowermentWe dance with fire not to entertain—but to remember, to feel, and to rise. Now birthing it's 4th season, in Long Island City (LIC), Queens, Fire As Medicine has a new elemental team bringing fresh energy and deeper alignment to its diverse foundation.
Fire As Medicine (FAM) began as a collaborative flame, sparked on the island of St. Croix (U.S. Virgin Islands) by Angela Alfieri and Kiki Mason—two educators rooted in healing, movement, and sacred embodiment.Together, they shared a vision shaped by years of combined experience in:● yoga therapy
● meditation
● massage therapy
● Neurosomatic Flow™
● occupational therapy
● shamanic breathwork
● the flow artsFrom 2020 to 2023, Angela and Kiki tended this flame through workshops and retreats across St. Croix as a living medicine. Kiki continues to hold programs in St. Croix, while Angela now carries the flame in Long Island City (LIC), Queens, where Fire As Medicine has grown into a vibrant, evolving community rooted in somatics, story, fire ritual, and performance.
The soil of St. Croix holds the long memory of both colonial violence and revolutionary change. It is here that fire is more than an element--it is a legacy. In 1878, the island ignited during the Fireburn Rebellion, a labor uprising led by three courageous Crucian women: Queen Mary, Queen Agnes, and Queen Mathilda. Though slavery had been legally abolished, plantation life remained brutal and unjust. In an act of defiance, the people set fire to the structures of their oppression—a sacred blaze of resistance and remembrance. It is from this land—rich with ancestral power and revolutionary spirit—that we carry and honor the path of authenticity, liberation, and embodied sovereignty.
Fire As Medicine offers a sacred space to explore safety, belonging, creative expression, and embodied healing. We value a trauma-informed, therapeutic, and shamanic approach that encourages present-moment awareness and the wisdom of the body. By honoring fire as a form of medicine we gather in reverence for the flame, for the land that holds us, and for each other. Our intention is to co-create:● Support for all races, ethnicities, genders, and identities● A place to honor ancestral wisdom, nature and the elements as ally's● Deep inquiry, vulnerability, brave conversations● Play, joy, and great artistry that inspires us to elevate
